The RVMP Flex Power 5500e is the big one - a permanently installed dual-fuel EFI generator built for coaches that need to run air conditioning and everything else at the same time, off grid, for days. It is also a common replacement for tired Onan-style onboard sets.

• Power quality. Total harmonic distortion ≤3%, multi-pole brushless PM alternator with digital voltage regulation.
• Size and weight. 30" L x 20" W x 13.5" H, 161 lb (73 kg).
• Certification. 50-state CARB compliant; exceeds US Forest Service, CSA, RVIA and EPA requirements.

This is a hardwired installation, not a plug-in. There are no receptacles on the machine. Output lands on 10 AWG hot, neutral and ground leads that run through a 30 A breaker into a transfer switch or the coach's AC distribution panel. Budget for the install, and talk to us about the transfer switch if the coach does not already have one.

No carbon monoxide shutoff. RVMP does not fit CO sensing to the installed Flex Power generators — they have low-oil and overheat shutdown and a fire-prevention valve controller, but nothing that detects CO. RVMP's own manual says to have a working carbon monoxide detector in the coach. If CO shutoff is a requirement for you, say so and we will point you at units that have it.

Altitude — read this before you size it

RVMP's own owner's manual states that generator power decreases approximately 3.5% of rated power for every 1,000 ft above sea level. That figure is in the manual, not on the product page, and it is the single most important number for anyone buying an RV generator in Colorado. Applied to this machine's 5,500 W gasoline rating:

• Denver, ~5,280 ft: about 18% off — roughly 4,484 W instead of 5,500 W.
• Colorado Springs, ~6,035 ft: about 21% off — roughly 4,338 W instead of 5,500 W.
• Monument / Palmer Divide, ~7,000 ft: about 24% off — roughly 4,152 W instead of 5,500 W.
• Leadville / high passes, ~9,000 ft: about 32% off — roughly 3,768 W instead of 5,500 W.

This is not a defect and it is not specific to RVMP — every naturally aspirated engine does it. It matters here because RV air conditioners draw their biggest current at startup, and a set that starts the A/C at sea level may not start it at 7,000 ft. Tell us the elevations you actually camp at and we will size against these numbers rather than the sticker.

Warranty. RVMP's product page says two years; RVMP's own owner's manual for this line says three. We are not going to print a term we cannot stand behind — ask us and we will get it in writing from RVMP before you buy.
